Elderly man dies in Boston apartment complex

Authorities say one person has died and five others, including a firefighter, have been taken to hospitals after an early morning fire at a Boston apartment complex for the elderly.

The fire at the Harbor Point apartments was reported at about 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Firefighters focused on a fourth-floor apartment where the blaze is thought to have originated. That’s where the victim, described as an elderly man, was found.

Woman steps down from Greater Boston Party

The Holliston woman who helped found the Greater Boston Tea Party and served as the group’s first president will step down next month following the recent election of Christine Morabito as the group’s new leader.

Holliston resident Christen Varley helped Morabito and others start the organization in 2009, but has moved to Ohio to be near family and work on a book about the Tea Party, she said yesterday. “Christine and I are both founders, actually, of the organization,” Varley said.

Boston Celtics’ Jeff Green needs heart surgery

Boston Celtics forward Jeff Green will miss the 2011-12 NBA season because of a problem with his heart that will require surgery to repair, the NBA team announced.

The 25-year-old Green will have surgery to fix an aortic aneurysm, the club said on Saturday as it travelled to Toronto for an exhibition game against the Raptors.

Green is scheduled for an operation on Monday at the Cleveland Clinic. Doctors said he should be able to resume his career if the surgery goes as planned.
