Investigation of Boston warehouse blaze under way

An investigation into one of the biggest fires in Boston in decades is getting under way.
About 170 firefighters from across the city battled the blaze that razed a vacant warehouse in the city’s Roxbury neighborhood over the weekend. The fire was reported on Saturday night and was not completely out until Sunday afternoon. No one was hurt.
The blaze caused an estimated $750,000 in damage.
Scientists simulate terror attack on Boston subway

Scientists are releasing gases and fluorescent particles into Boston’s subway tunnels on Friday to study how toxic chemicals and lethal biological agents could spread through the nation’s oldest subway system in a terrorist attack.
Boston Castle in Rotherham will not be abandoned

Plans to restore Rotherham’s historic Boston Castle have been delayed due to cuts by the local authority.
Just two weeks before the £1.7 million renovation work was due to take place, Rotherham Borough Council pulled the project.
In January 2010 it was announced that the Grade II listed building would be restored from a derelict and vandalised landmark into an attractive visitor attraction.
Boston church relic recovered; man arrested in NH

Vermont State Police have recovered a revered Boston church relic believed to be a piece of the cross on which Christ was crucified.
Acting on a tip from Vermont police, Hanover police arrested Earl Frost, 34, who is described as a transient by Vermont authorities, while he was filling a prescription at the CVS pharmacy. Frost was wanted by Hanover police on a parole violation. According to a Vermont State Police report, the recovery of the relic reported missing from the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston nearly two months ago began with a call to a mobile home park in Royalton, Vt., on Aug. 9.
Red Sox get Pedroia back for playoff drive

Boston Red Sox sparkplug Dustin Pedroia will return to the lineup on Tuesday after seven weeks on the disabled list, giving the team a possible boost in their drive for a post-season berth.
The second baseman, named Rookie of the Year in 2007 and the Most Valuable Player the next season, was sidelined with a broken left foot and will return to action against the Los Angeles Angels after two minor league warm-up games.
Area near Boston airport evacuated

Authorities evacuated buildings near Boston’s Logan International Airport on Monday after finding a suspicious device in an abandoned car, but no threat was discovered, officials said.
“There does not appear to be any threat,” airport spokesman Phil Orlandella said, adding that the incident did not affect airport operations.
Officials evacuated an unknown number of people from buildings in the area where the car was found, said Lieutenant David Wilson of the Massachusetts State Police.
Unruly Woman Diverts Boston Flight

A Boston to Dominican Republic flight was diverted to Washington, D.C., on Friday afternoon after a female passenger became unruly, according to officials.
Jet Blue Flight 691 landed in Washington at 1:13 p.m. after leaving Logan Airport at 10:38 a.m. en route to Santo Domingo.
Gold, Coins, and $100,000 Bills on Display in Boston

Gold, coins, and sheets of $100,000 bills were on display at the World’s Fair of Money in Boston on Thursday.
Approximately 1,000 coin dealers and collectors came to the fair, which started Tuesday and ends Saturday, the Associated Press reported.

Shaq Lands In Boston: ‘It’s All About Winning’

Shaquille O’Neal met the Boston media Tuesday for the first time as a member of the Boston Celtics.
He signed a two-year contract worth about $3 million last week and was formally introduced at the team’s facility in Waltham this morning.
