Boston’s Buchholz named AL Pitcher of the Month

Boston Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholz was named the American League Pitcher of the Month for August.
Buchholz was 4-0 with a minuscule 1.03 earned-run average over six August starts. He struck out 28, walked 13 and finished second in the A.L. in ERA, while tying for second in wins.
O’s look to pin Boston further back in AL East

Last night’s 5-2 Orioles’ win put Boston 8 games behind the Yankees and 7 games behind the Rays in the AL East and wild card races.

Manny to have dreadlocks trimmed in Boston

Montro, barber to the sports stars, has texted to tell me he will be doing Manny Ramirez’ hair in Boston either on Thursday or Friday. Ramirez’ dreadlocks have already become an issue in Chicago where team owner Jerry Reinsdorf has a policy on the length of hair.
JetBlue is adding Boston to Newark service

JetBlue Airways said it plans to offer new daily nonstop service to Newark from Logan International Airport, starting next May.
The move will open up an expensive business route to low-fare competition, JetBlue said in a press release.
Continental Airlines is currently the only carrier that flies nonstop between the two cities, with advance-purchase round-trip fares in the $800 range on its 11 daily midweek flights. JetBlue has not yet announced its schedule or ticket prices between the two cities.
Beltre proves to be Boston’s ultimate warrior

It was a key pennant-race game the Red Sox were playing under the roof of Tropicana Field on Sunday night — and Adrian Beltre wasn’t going to shortchange his team on hustle, not even with his left hamstring in quite obvious pain. He lined one into the left-field corner and hobbled into second for a double. Not long after, Yamaico Navarro lined one to left and Beltre limped around third and scored, never taking his foot off the gas pedal.
West Nile Virus sickens Boston woman

Boston health officials say a 46-year-old woman has become the first resident to test positive for West Nile Virus this year.
The city’s Director of Infectious Diseases Bureau Dr. Anita Barry says the patient has improved and was released from hospital today. Officials withheld her identity, citing privacy laws.

“MphasiS has aggressive plans and needs the right structure to support our ambitions. The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has been appointed as consultant to provide recommendations on organisation structure,” MphasiS Chief Executive Officer Balu Ganesh Ayyar said.
Mass. student appeals ruling in song-sharing case

A Harvard law professor has filed the notice to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 1st Circuit, seeking to overturn the penalty against Joel Tenenbaum.
Boston FBI chief says James ‘Whitey’ Bulger, art heist priorities

The new head of the Boston FBI office says he will have a “laser-like focus” on finding fugitive gangster James “Whitey” Bulger and solving the 1990 Gardner Museum art heist.
Richard DesLauriers said the two high-profile cases will be among his highest local priorities.
DesLauriers began work last month as special agent in charge. He is a 23-year veteran of the FBI with extensive experience in counterintelligence.
Investigation of Boston warehouse blaze under way

An investigation into one of the biggest fires in Boston in decades is getting under way.
About 170 firefighters from across the city battled the blaze that razed a vacant warehouse in the city’s Roxbury neighborhood over the weekend. The fire was reported on Saturday night and was not completely out until Sunday afternoon. No one was hurt.
The blaze caused an estimated $750,000 in damage.
